Businesses have been attempting to make a good voice recognition program for many years now. Unfortunately, this type of software was brought to market way before it was ready. Companies put out software that was lackluster at best. It was slow, it didn’t do a great job recognizing people’s voices, and it quite often didn’t work at all.
Recently there have been some decent speech to text programs that have done well, but they are hit or miss depending on the voice. These programs can work great for some and terrible for others. Also, they can sometimes require the user to actually train the program to work for them. Needless to say, this can be quite time consuming to do.
Strangely enough, Apple has now begun work on including speech recognition software on its mobile products. This will be known as the Siri and can be found along with Use a Mac Blog at useamac.com. One of the best things about this new technology is that it will allow the user to do many different things. Siri software will give the user the ability to send text messages without typing, schedule appointments, and even do online searches.
Personal assistants could potentially be put out of business because of this improved upon technology. It doesn’t make sense for somebody to pay a personal assistant to do a job that their phone can do for free. I also think it will be phone to see people speaking with their phones as opposed to on them. I wonder how many people will make their phones call them Michael Knight while they are driving?
While in the car, this system could eventually be used as a sort of GPS system. People could tell their phone where they want to go and it could look up the directions for them. Most phones already have a GPS feature or a way to access Google Maps, so this really wouldn’t be very difficult for them to add.
People have lost interest in voice recognition software, why do they care now?
Folks are excited about it now because Apple is going after the market. Apple tends to work on their products until they are fantastic to use. They manufacture products that work well and that are extremely user friendly. People know that if Apple has decided to make voice recognition work, then it will work. In fact, competitors are so confident that it will become a big market that they are already working on competing products to put on their smart phones. Both Google and Microsoft are working on new systems and it is only a matter of time before we can all get voice recognizing phones no matter who we decide to buy them off of.
Unfortunately for them, they are behind the eight ball once again. Apple will break into the market and dominate it before any of their competitors can get their foot in the door. If you’re searching for more switch from PC to Mac , then this is certainly one of them. Why talk on your phone when you can talk to it?
